God Wanted Bush to be President

To all you evangelical Christians who voted for Bush....

Bush claims that God told him, "I want you to be President." This is a pretty grandiose statement. It's either true or it's false. So, let's look at this for a moment.

If it's true, then of course, you should all go along with that proclamation and vote for him. No question.

But if it's false.... Then either Bush is lying or he's delusional. And if he's lying, are you going to get away with him doing so? Are you going to let him buy your vote with a lie that plays upon your religious beliefs?

If he's delusional, do you want that sort of person as President?

I would hope that the answer to those last few questions were all "no".

And thus, let's look at the likelihood that God really told Bush, "I want you to be President." One would assume God would only say this if God were going to approve of the vast majority of choices Bush would make as President. Maybe God even intended to provide continued advice throughout the presidency. So let's look at some aspects of that presidency.

Do you think God would approve of Bush's handling of the environment? Because after all, God loves it when we destroy the planet, right?

Do you think God told Bush, "Invade Iraq. I like war."

Do you think God told Bush, "Take a hard stance against North Vietnam. That will surely drive them to stronger pursuit of nuclear technology, and I love it when more countries have nukes."

Hmm. Okay, will certainly God told Bush, "Rig the elections. I like it when the voters lose faith in their governments, especially when the voters know that it was election fraud that won the election."

If God wanted a president who would pursue God's preferred national policies, don't you think He could have found someone who would have more closely followed those policies, instead of just giving lip service to a few? After all, Bush has controlled the White House and Congress for years, but where's all that anti-abortion legislation he promised you? He can't even pass a law that's as tough as Clinton was willing to sign. Which should tell you...

These people are lying to you!

And you keep voting for them.
