Immigration in Japan by CNN...
The story linked above could be repeated here in the US just as easily. In the story, a filipino man and woman each illegally moved to Japan, met, got married, and 13 years ago, had a baby girl. The girl, having been born, is legally a citizen of Japan. She only speaks Japanese and considers (rightfully so) the country her home. Her parents, however, are being deported per Japanese law.
I don't know what should really happen. I understand why countries have immigration laws. And I don't people should be rewarded for breaking those laws. Letting the girl's parents stay seems like rewarding them.
On the other hand, I believe the girl and her parents are making the right choice leaving her in Japan. She'll have better opportunities and a better life.
There has to be another solution -- one that still punishes the parents without so harshly punishing the child. But I don't know what that solution is. Which means I can't criticize the Japanese government for taking this choice.
