Van's has added additional models in the last few years. There are quick-build versions of most models. There's an RV-8A (tricycle gear). And the RV-6 line has been replaced with RV-7s. The difference between 6s and 7s is primarily the construction -- the 7s are FAR more automated.
These airplanes are all long-wing sport aircraft. They're fairly fast -- the 6A cruises at 188 MPH when well-built. This won't beat a newer Bonanza or Mooney or some of the fiberglass kitplanes, but it is significantly faster than the airplanes most private pilots fly.
All the airplanes feature "stressed monocoque" construction. That is, they're aluminum skins over an aluminum frame. This type of construction relies upon the skins for airframe rigidity.
Construction time is expected to be around 2000 hours, depending upon the builder's work habits and skills.
